Jazz comping video from Lewis Nash

Jazz comping explained in 5 minutes! This is a great video explaining how drums and chord instruments communicate in jazz I learned this from Dutch drummer Rene Winter but since I don’t have him explaining it on video you have to make do with Lewis Nash…

For guitarist: Just block out “piano” and substitute “guitar” (Admit it: You are used to ignoring the piano….)

In the video there is a great explanation of how drums and chord instrument (the PC term for guitar and piano)  work together behind the soloist in creating a texture and setting the dynamics. When piano and drums play together in the video you have a good example of how snare drum and bass drum are used to communicate with the rhythm of the chords in the piano.
