Jens Larsen was born in Denmark in 1973. He started playing guitar at the age of 12. After graduating from high school Jens studied mathematics and computer science at the University of Aarhus where he graduated in 1995. While studying here he played and performed rock and blues music around town and university, but also started to develop an interest for Jazz.
After two years in Copenhagen he did entrance exam at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague. Here he was accepted and studied jazz guitar from 1998 to 2004, graduating cum laude with a masters degree in 2004. While there he got the chance to perform with Jim McNeely, Slide Hampton and Michael Brecker and follow masterclasses with Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Chris Cheek.
Jens is since 1998 working as a musician in the Netherlands performing on Dutch venues, radio and television everywhere from North Sea Jazz to the TV program “Vrije Geluiden” He has performed as a guitarist and composer. In 2012 his composition “Try To Remember” was in the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Contest.
Jens is one of the two founding members of the Jazz Quartet Træben which has released two albums until now. The latest “Push” was received very well by press and public alike and even made it to a few best album of 2012 lists in Europe and the States. Træben have been very busy promoting the album and working on the music for the next. In the last three years Træben has been performing in Scandinavia, Benelux and Canada.
In 2014 Jens’ composition Top Dog from the 2012 Træben album “Push” received honorable mention at the international songwriting contest.
