F Jazz Blues Etude - Basic Arpeggios

It's a 30 minute video download including a 3 chorus solo on an F jazz Blues and a thorough explanation of how I come up with the lines in that solo plus some extra philosophy and historical perspective on how blues is often played in jazz.

Bb Jazz Blues Lesson 1

A truly fantastic part of Jazz Guitar is the Jazz Blues sound. Here Bebop and Blues meet in a great mix as you hear with people like Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, and Kenny Burrell.

This lesson will teach you how to play lines in this way using a 4-chorus solo on a medium Bb blues. Take your Jazz Blues solos up a level.

F Blues Comping Etude #1

This lesson consists of 2 examples, first one is a chorus of basic blues comping, and the second is a 2 chorus etude with lots of rhythmical and harmonic variations, riff ideas and melodies.  In the video I demonstrate how to use the material and give a detailed explanation of the choices I made.

F Blues Comping Etude #2 - Riffs and Rhythm

This 2nd lesson on Blues comping on an F blues is based around using riffs and developing a way to take riffs through the form. If you listen to piano players like Wynton Kelly, Horace Silver or Red Garland you will often hear them take a specific pattern and repeat it to create an interesting groovy background for a soloist.

This lesson is for the biggest part about creating and using these riff rhythms, but to make it easy to work with them.
