This lesson is a transcription of 6 choruses of comping on a 12 bar F blues using Drop2 voicings.
The Two exercises and transcriptions will give you some examples of how you might apply Drop2 voicings to a 12 bar Blues. The goal is to give you a solid set of voicings and help you use these voicings in a piece of music. Since a Blues is a very common progression that most of us are familiar with it is a good place to start.
Using this lesson and examples
The examples in this video are simple transcriptions of how I comp on a Blues using only Drop2 voicings. It can be useful to learn the transcription, but you can also use it as inspiration for your own comping.
The exercises in this article are a little dry, but also something that you want to be aware of and to some degree have in your fingers.
The practical way to work with the voicings is probably to focus on being able to harmonize melodies with them. That is a big part of what you need to have in your playing whether you are comping or playing a chord solo.
