Playing Chord solos is a big part of especially the hardbop era guitar vocabulary. If you listen to people like Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell you will hear a lot of chord solo material in their performances.
In this video lesson package I have recorded and transcribed a three chorus chord solo on summertime. The lesson includes exercises and a 3 video analysis of the solo
The lesson package
In 3 videos I will analyze the solo and talk about how the phrases are constructed. To help you work on chord soloing. I also demonstrate some exercises to come up with voicings for chord solos and to train your ability to actually play the chord solos.
Since Summertime is a minor tune with a lot of tonic minor I also discuss 3 different approaches to harmonize minor chords. This will help you to get different sounds so you can add variation to your solos.
